Recently I’ve had some time to dig around some of my old backup hard drives (which crashed) and I found a whole set of photos from 2001 when I worked onboard a cruise ship and still shot on film!
I haven’t used film since then and although I still have some fondness for it, I can’t be bothered processing it, cutting it into strips, scanning it and then dealing with bits of dust and scratches on the fragile emulsion!
These days I’m shooting Canon 5dMK2s with a load of L glass. Back then I was using a Minolta Dynax 9xi (which I bought for next to nothing in a second hand shop) a 35-70 f4, 50 f1.7 and a 70-210 f4.5-5.6
Looking back at the photos I’m wondering “Do I really need all the new stuff I have?” Sure, these images are grainy and there are some lots of scratches here and there but on the whole, given the equipment and that fact I shot on the cheapest film I could buy I think they’re quite acceptable!
Anyway, here they are…….some of the last photographs I ever shot on Film………… 🙁
Open air laundry in India, was it Mumbai (Bombay)?
The next few shots are from the county of Djibouti, its basically a giant petrol station for ships passing up to and from the Suez canal. It’s also the place where all the flies in the world come from.
